CQC inspections: Is it Effective?

Shilla Talati looks at the new CQC ‘Provider handbook for primary care dental services’, this time focusing on one of the Five Key Questions: Is it Effective?

By ‘effective’, the CQC mean that people’s care, treatment and support achieves good outcomes, promotes a good quality of life and is based on the best available evidence. The regulations covering CQC inspections under the ‘effective’ category are the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. Ensuring a practice is effective includes a number of areas within the practice, which can include aspects relating to: patients, staff, dental records and dental treatments. Effectiveness includes whether people’s needs and care and treatment are delivered in line with current legislations, standards and evidence based guidance. Effectiveness also includes whether staff have the skills, knowledge and experience to deliver effective care and treatment and if there are effective arrangements in place for working with other health care professionals to ensure quality of care for the patient.
