A: Significant events are those that have serious negative or positive effects on a practice. Not all significant events will have adverse outcomes for patients. Analysis into significant events looks at “what went wrong or right” rather than “who did what”. A key component of clinical governance is learning from these events. Analysing them can prevent the negative events and replicate the ones that were positive.
