Safeguarding in the dental practice

Safeguarding in the dental practice
Summary

Dental practices have a responsibility to safeguard children and vulnerable adults from abuse. The CQC has a statutory duty to protect and promote the health, safety and welfare of people who use health and social care services and dental practices are inspected on this. The General Dental Council’s (GDC) New Dental Standards: Principle 8 reinforces the dental practice’s responsibility for safeguarding. The CQC expect dental practitioners to follow the guidance in the Intercollegiate document for healthcare staff, which sets out the minimum training requirements for dental practices.
